Linescape celebrates 7th Anniversary with new Tech Stack

Leading Sailing Schedules provider migrates systems and components to new equipment and to the cloud.

Burlingame, CA – May 6, 2016

Linescape, the leading global sailing schedules search engine and data feed provider, has moved all of it back-end systems and components, some to new hardware and some to the cloud. The move will greatly enhance performance and ensure maximum security and uptime.

Linescape, celebrating its seventh anniversary, provides sailing schedules from over 100 container shipping lines with more than 9 million voyages, including data on 13,000 vessels sailing through 3,000 ports. In addition to it’s online search engine, Linescape provides customers with sailing schedule data feeds, of both direct and transhipment voyages. All of its technology was originally built and hosted on just one server, but the growing complexities and higher operational demands have necessitated a move to new technology, as well as to the cloud.

In preparing for the move, Linescape enlisted the services of the London-based IT support firm, LShift, to analyze and recommend a new architecture, as well as to consult and assist in its implementation.

“We used to call our system the bowl of spaghetti, because everything was mixed together”, said president and co-founder, David Tarizzo. “This presented various operational and security risks, so we have been working for well over a year with LShift in planning and executing a migration and separation of the various components onto new and separate but interconnected hardware or cloud services. The result, I am very please to say, greatly enhances security and performance and provides us with a fantastic foundation for our next big development”.
